Moffat gets singles spot

Morgan Moffat, the runner-up to Peter Beiliss, in the singles at last week’s national bowls tournament in Christchurch, will have •further chances to prove himself in the singles role in the next month. Moffat has been named as the singles player in the Canterbury team for the zone eliminations of the Rothmans inter-centre tournament at Oamaru on February 1 and 2. In the past he has been the fours skip.

The team has undergone a number of changes, although there is only one player new to the event. He is Warner Barber, who will be the lead in the four.

Travis Coup, who was the regular fours skip before Moffat came along in the

late 19705, has been recalled to fill this position. Coup, in fact, was a member of the only Canterbury team to win the national final, in 1970.
