Sound work by Laurent
Special correspondent Hastings Laurent furthered his preparation for the Wellington Cup meeting with a sound gallop over 1000 m at Hastings yesterday. Fast work was carried out on the plough, where the ground was easy. Only a small number of horses galloped, with most trainers being away at the Waikato Sales.
Laurent was not hurried over 1000 m in lmin 9.65, the last 600 m in 40.75.
The chestnut was eliminated from the $75,000 Wrightson Handicap at Trentham on Saturday but will contest the open sprint
on the second day. Time honours for the morning went to Ragatan, Winbrook and a Reindeer gelding which sprinted 600 m together in 37.95. Dare, in the early stages of a fresh campaign, was under a good hold throughout 600 m in 41.95. She has come back looking in great order.
Twyford Road and Mr Remus clocked 40s for 600 m. Both were travelling easily at the finish. Twyford Road is a younger brother of Exocet
More Style registered 39.5 s for an easy 600 m, while Canary ran 1000 m in lmin 8.75, the last 600 m in 40.55.
