Cadbury trims range

NZPA-Reuter London Britain’s CadburySchweppes group, best known for its soft drinks and chocolate bars, plans to sell various food and beverage divisions in Britain, Ireland and France to a team of company managers.* The group said it was in an advanced state of negotiations to sell the subsidiaries, which make and sell products such as Typhoo tea, Kenco coffee and Chivers Hartley marmalade, for about £82.5M ($235.95M). Cadbury’s profits fell 18 per cent to £33.8M ($96.67M) in the first half of 1985 and industry analysts say it is trying to revive profitability by trimming the company’s range of products. A statement from Cadbury said the group’s objectives would be more readily achieved by further concentrating on its worldwide core activities of confectionery and soft drinks.
