China’s ‘singles’ increase
NZPA-Reuter Peking A Chinese newspaper says people should not remain single, since sex outside marriage is considered immoral and long-term repression of sexual desire is . detrimental to health and work.
The “China Daily” said that single people, whose number is growing, especially in the larger cities in China, could suffer from a social stigma and be regarded as psychologically or physically unsound. ‘‘A single life should not be encouraged. Society should show more care for single people and create a better environment for them to find satisfactory spouses,” it said.
But women’s liberation had increased the number of single women devoted to their careers and such dedi; cation should be appreciated, it added.
