Shipping news

The Port of Lyttelton will today play host to a vessel which is literally sailing from one end of the globe to the other. She is the parcel tanker Paul Buck, which is expected to arrive at port from Alaska about 7 p.m. After refuelling and taking on supplies, the Paul Buck will sail tomorrow for the Antarctic. She is carrying a mixture of fuels for the United States Antarctic base at McMurdo Sound. Her crew should not take long to become acclimatised to the Antarctic cold, having just endured the bitterly cold Alaskan winter. The Paul Buck is under charter from Ocean ships, of Houston, to the United States Military Sealift Command. It will be her first visit to Lyttelton. ARRIVALS Nil. DEPARTURES Nil.
