ALEX McMILLAN

Hokitika

McCann had Te Kaahu, which is trained by his employer and father, Mike McCann, a brother of the Riccarton horseman, Ron McCann, handy to the pace throughout and the Palatable five-year-old proved too strong in the run home for the well-supported Tonusho. Scratchings galore By ALEX MCMILLAN Hokitika The heavy track conditions which prevailed at Hokitika yesterday resulted in the Westland Racing Club receiving 64 scratchings for its January fixture. Of the original 146 acceptors at the meeting, only 82 went to the post. Worst hit events were the day’s feature, the Hokitika Businesses Hokitika Cup, which was reduced from 20 acceptors to just eight runners, while the Air New Zealand Hokitika Plate saw only four of the 12 three-year-olds to pay up facing the starter.
