Untidy Kiwis
Sir,—l am fed-up with all the rubbish along the roadside being thrown out from passing cars. I have been collecting drink cans, mainly beer cans, for about six months and have a pile of about 300. Nearly all of them have been picked up in the short distance of the road in front of our house and farm. Lots of other rubbish gets thrown out too. Broken beer bottles are the worst. I think people are mean for doing this sort of thing because we do not do it when we come to Christchurch. Outsiders complain about local people wanting to mine gold but when they travel through our area they do not seem to care what the place looks like. Through your newspaper could I ask people to stop being so untidy when they travel?—Yours, etc.,
RICKY INCH (aged 12). Manila, January 10, 1986.
