Doubles demolition

NZPA-Reuter London Paul Annacone, of the United States, and South African Christo Van Rensburg, cruised comfortably into the final of the World Championship Tennis (W.C.T.) doubles tournament at the Royal Albert Hall yesterday. The Australian Open champions clinched their place in today’s final by crushing the eighth seeds, the American, Peter Fleming, and John Lloyd, of Britain, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, in 95 minutes. Fleming and Lloyd, who beat the reigning champions and top seeds, Ken Flach and Robert Seguso, (U.S.) on

their way to the semi-finals, were frequently left standing by Annacone’s deft touches. They were unable to force their way back into the match after Lloyd lost his service in the fourth game of the first set and were unsettled by a long dispute in the second set when Fleming was warned for “unsportsmanlike behaviour". Annacone and Van Rensburg will meet either the U.S. Open champions, Flach and Seguso, or the Wimbledon champions, Balazs Taroczy and Heinz Gunthardt, whose semi-final was to be played last night.
