Bristow strolls into semi-final

NZPA-AFP Frimley Green, England The darts defending champion, ISric Bristow, of England, remains the scourge of Wales.

He demolished the Welshman, Peter Locke, 4-0 in the world professional darts championship at Frimley Green to stroll into the semi-finals yesterday.

Bristow had beaten Locke’s fellow Welshman, Alan Evans, and Malcolm Davies in the previous rounds, and Locke, ranked as world’s No. 9, could do little to avenge them. He briefly threatened Bristow by moving ahead, 21 in the first set, but back came the Englishman with a sparkling 131 check-out to level matters before taking

the set 3-2. Locke won the first leg of the second set and threw a maximum 180 to start the next game, but Bristow remained on course for a hattrick of world titles and his fifth in seven years by taking six of the next seven legs to stand 3-0 ahead before zipping through the fourth set 3-0 for victory.

Meanwhile, the Englishman, Alan Glazier, threw away a three-sets lead and missed ten match-darts before finally knocking off Australia’s Terry O’Dea 4-3 in a gripping quarter-final. He now lines up tomorrow against Bristow. Results:— E. Bristow (England), beat P. Locke (Wales), 4-0. A. Glazier (England), beat T. O’Dea (Australia), 4-3.
