Special projects and systems development will also be undertaken. Substantial professional support will be provided. Given the probable term of the initial contract and that a full 40 hours may not be required each week, this position is likely to appeal to a recently retired senior company or chartered Accountant. The work would include: — analysing energy demand data — developing demand models — updating and improving existing models — developing new approaches to demand forecasting — producing energy demand forecasts — reconciling demand forecasts produced by a variety of means This is a position for someone familiar with state-of-the-art statistical methods and/or econometric techniques, who is keen to develop the application of those techniques. Encouragement would be given for the person to publish work and attend relevant professional courses and seminars. Although those with relevant experience will be preferred, graduates with demonstrated Interest and ability in the above areas will be seriously considered. Some of the research and investigation areas of the Group include: — long-range energy forecasting and supply modelling — long-range economic forecasting — investment planning methods for electricity, coal and gas — corporate planning — methods for planning under uncertainty — efficiency of the energy industry, deregulation of the industry — energy pricing policy The applicants should have a good degree in economics, preferably at honours level or above, and could be expected to work with a variety of tools including: — operations research techniques — cost/benefit analysis — macro-economic modelling — econometric analysis — financial analysis The person should be self-motivated, interested in both identifying and solving problems, and interested in developing his/her skills and knowledge in some of the areas above.
