Hurt woman lifted out

PA Timaru The injured Timaru woman who spent Thursday night on the Copland Pass was flown out yesterday morning in good spirits. Marion Adair Williams, aged 44, was forced to spend the night in the Mount Cook National Park after a helicopter picked up her three companions but could not rescue her because of bad weather. Four mountaineers from the park stayed with her during the night in tents. Constable Bill Apes, of Lake Tekapo, said yesterday that Mrs Williams had spent a comfortable night in the

pass and was in good spirits. The weather had cleared but the helicopter, flown by Mr Ron Small, of Lake Tekapo, could not reach the party before 8 a.m. Mr Apes said that the low cloud meant the helicopter had to cross the divide through the Baker Saddle and come back from the other side of the Copland Pass. Mrs Williams was taken to Twizel, where she was treated by a doctor for a cut and suspected shoulder fracture and driven to Timaru Hospital by ambulance.
