The successful Ashburton trainer, Jim Lalor, already has a commanding lead over his contemporaries in his bid to earn the winner’s slice of a *lOOO prize put up by the Canterbury-Westland Owners and Trainers’ Association for the most successful trainer on the current five-day West Coast circuit. Reefton on Wednesday earned their trainer 23 points in the competition. Jim Lalor’s brother, Tom, from Riccarton, was the runner-up after Wednesday’s racing. He goes into the second day of the contest at Kumara today with 13 points.
