What a Piece of work is a Man! Said Hamlet, and I quote. And the Bible—‘What is Man?’ I scribble my FootnoteMan is an Animal that makes Mistakes! The impregnable City fell, The unsinkable Ship sank, Nobody’s Savings saved The unbreakable Bank; The infallible Computer Had a Fault in its Digits, And the Rocket wobbled, the Satellite Had a Fit of Fidgets. Star Wars were a starry-eyed Vision, wouldn’t it be FunPotshots at Nuclear Missiles With a Laser Popgun? Infallible Marksmanship! Would the Missiles sit Like sitting Ducks in Space, Waiting to be hit? Man is an Animal that blunders And wonders What went wrong with the System! Are the worst of his Troubles and Terrors His Errors In the simplest Logistics, Ballistics, Or misread statistics?
