New destroyer
A new type of Soviet warship has entered the Straits of Malacca connecting the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea, United States sources say. They predicted that the 8500-ton Udaloy-class guided missile destroyer Admiral Spirodonov would call at the Cam Ranh Bay Naval Base in Vietnam before reporting to the Soviet Pacific fleet headquarters at Vladivostok in Soviet East Asia later this month. A United States Naval officer described the addition of the Spirodonov to the Soviet Pacific fleet as “a significant upgrade” in its capabilities. — Singapore.
