Fall victim better
Elizabeth Taiaroa, the girl who survived a 42m fall down a ravine at a North Canterbury . station on Wednesday, was reported to be in a fairly comfortable condition in Christchurch Hospital last evening. Earlier, Miss Taiaroa, aged 15, of Waikari, had been reported as being on the “not so well” list. She suffered a broken wrist, broken collar-bone, cuts, abrasions, and severe
shock in the accident, at Glenhope station near the Lewis Pass. Her horse, which fell a further 50m, was killed. - The accident happened while Miss Taiaroa was on an organised pony trek beside the Waiau River. Her horse shied and fell down a steep cliff. Rescuers used a cradle to haul Miss Taiaroa back up the cliff. She was later flown 'to Christchurch.
