Plenty for all to do and see

Chocolate wheels, sideshows, trade displays and a merry-go-round will add to the activities. Soft-freeze .fans will be glad to know that Tony Chimes will be at the show this year. Light lunches and bar facilities will be available. Because of the static displays, parking will be limited on the showgrounds itself but will be available in the schoolgrounds.

Admission to the show is $2 for adults and children under 12 are admitted free. A charge of $1 will be made for parking.

Something for everyone to do or see is what the Duvauchelle show offers this year. As well as some big competition events, displays and the grand parade at 3 p.m. there are many classes in every section of the show to cater for a wide variety of talents. The handcraft section has up to 40 classes including almost anything from baby’s bootees to an aranknit jersey. The flower section has 64 classes of different flowers and different arrangements. Junior exhibitors, those

under 16 years of age, can enter domestic produce, vegetables, flowers and handcraft, which has classes in art, woodwork, meccano, handwork and dolls. The horse section includes hack classes, pony classes and riding competitions.

Romney marsh, flock sheep, South Suffolk, Perendale and Suffolk are among the classes in the sheep section. A two-tooth flock ewe competition will be run in conjunction with the Banks Peninsula Horse Show and Pastoral Association.

This year’s president, Mr Tim Craw (above), has a farming partnership with his father and brother. They run sheep, dairy and beef cattle. Mr Craw has lived in Duvauchelle all his life and has been on the show committee for the last 10 years. He has been active in the Young Farmers Club since he left school, and plays golf and tennis. Mr Craw and his wife, Mrs Sue Craw, have two children, James, aged 3%, and Philip, who is six weeks old.
