Invercargill wool slips
Prices for strong crossbred fleece eased as much as 3 per cent at a sale of Invercargill wool in Christchurch yesterday, compared with prices at Wednesday’s Napier auction. Strong crossbred (37 micron) of good style and length was 3 per cent cheaper and medium crossbred (35 micron) was described as 2 per cent cheaper. However, 34 micron crossbred and fine crossbred lines were in sellers’ favour. B style second-shear eased 2.5 per cent and B/C style was in buyers’ favour.
Necks were quoted as 2.5 per cent dearer, pieces in sellers’ favour, better style oddments 2.5 per cent cheaper, and poorer style oddments 3.5 per cent dearer. The offering contained 29,234 bales in 1738 lots, comprising 83 per cent ewe fleece, 4 per cent second-shear and the rest oddments.
The, Wool Board bid on 361 bales, or 1.2 per cent of the offering, and bought or had passed to it six bales. Brokers said most of the wool was particularly well grown and generally of good colour. Clip preparation was of a good standard.
The market indicator was 470 clean and 349 greasy. The following is the official range of clean prices. Fine crossbred, 33 micron: Good 503 to 513, Good average to 503. Medium crossbred, 35 micron: Good 489 to 500, Good average 484 to 493, Poor to 482. Strong crossbred, 37 micron: Good 482 to 485, Good average 479 to 481, Poor 475 to 479. Cotts, 37 micron: Average to good 455 to 460. Second-shear Crossbred, 37 microns, 75/ 125 mm: Good to 479. Good average to 477. Crossbred, 37 micron: 50/ 100 mm: Good to 464, Good average to 462. Necks Fine crossbred, 32 micron: Average to Good to 495. Pieces Crossbred, 35 micron: Average 433 to 436. Bellies Medium crossbred,- 35 micron: Poor to 411. Crutchings Crossbred, 37 micron: Good to 436.
Locks Crossbred, 35 micron: Average to 347.
