Palace Guard stricken
Special correspondent Invercargill Palace Guard, the runaway winner of the Tapanui Cup, almost died last week when struck down by a severe dose of colic. ' "He was a very sick horse 1 for at least 20 hours,” Richard Collett, his trainer, said. The attack of colic struck last Thursday, only four days before his main summer mission, the Invercargill Gold Cup. “He is as good as gold now, but I have no plans for him,” Collett said. “A race like the Riverton Cup at Easter will suit him and there is always the Dunedin Cup next month,” he added.
