Sound work by French Polish
Special correspondent Palmerston North
The well-performed filly, French Polish, served notice that she could give the older horses a run for their money in the Breeders’ Stakes at Woodville tomorrow when she galloped impressively at Awapuni yesterday. Commissionaire, one of French Polish’s main rivals in the race, also worked well. So did the sprinter, Super Tai, while Skybiri looked good in his trial.
Working on the course proper, which was wet after overnight rain, French Polish seemed to handle it well enough when running 1200 metres in lmin 245. The last 600 in 38s was the fastest part of the gallop. French Polish ran a fine race in the Ladies’ Mile at Ellerslie running on strongly. Commissionaire and Bidston Hill ran 1200 metres in lmin 20.45, the last 600 in 3sss. Commissionairet'was
working well at the end. He is very fit but the weather will determine his chance tomorrow. Bidston Hill is in the Stewards’ Handicap but will find 1400 too short. He too would need a firming of the track.
Super Tai galloped in his best style, running 1200 metres in lmin 19s the last 600 in 395. He hit out well and should be hard to beat in the Stewards’ Handicap. Skybiri, an impressive last-start Manawatu winner, completed 1000 metres in lmin 9.65, the last 600 in 40s. He is another engaged in the Stewards’ Handicap but no rider has been confirmed for him. The smart filly, Sister Loo, which has done well since her winning debut here last month, ran 600 attractively in 375; she should continue on her winning way at the Marton meeting next week. Mr Trick, preparing ..for the Marton meeting wxt
Wednesday, galloped 1200 metres in lmin 24.55, the last 600 in 39.55. He pulled too hard in the Auckland Cup and was beaten on the turn. But he took no harm from the race. Pahiatua candidate Rivetta ran from the 800 in 555, the last 600 in 40.5 s and Red Ribbon Parade was timed for 1000 metres in lmin 10s, the last 600 in 41s. Rapanella, which looks fit for Pahiatua, ran from the 1200 metres in lmin 25s the last 600 in 395. Royal Dee looked good in galloping 1200 metres in lmin 21s the last 600 in 40s. He was unlucky at Wairarapa and the race improved him. He could be hard to beat in the President’s Handicap tomorrow. On the plough Debt Free ran 1000 metres well in lmin 5s the last 600 in 395. Debt Free was second firstup for the Bull stable at Wairarapa and holds a good chance against the maidens at Pahiatua.
