Lady Stanley works well at Hastings
Special correspondent Hastings
A fast 800 metres by Lady Stanley and a sound workout from Laurent highlighted the Hastings track work yesterday. Fast work was done on the plough (firm), and No. 1 grass (easy). Lady Stanley, preparing for the Dents Handicap at the Pahiatua meeting, sprinted 800 metres on the plough in 49.15, the last 600 in 36.25. She had only a light weight up but was, nevertheless doing her work very
easily. Her trainer, Patrick Campbell, has yet to confirm a rider for the mare in the 1600-metre event, where she has drawn the ace. Laurent clocked lmin 4.5 s for 1000 metres, the last 600 in 37.45. He blew a lot after his race at the Hawke's Bay meeting last Saturday, but the run has improved him. His trainer, Marlene Todd, will pay up with Laurent in the 1400-metre open sprint at next Wednes-
day’s Marton meeting. There is a chance he will also race on the second day of the Wellington Cup carnival. Mash was let off with an easy 600 metres, in 39.85. She did not get much of a run in the final stages when fourth at Hastings last week and could show up in the second Kaitawa Maiden at Pahiatua.
Legs Ahead sprinted 800 metres in 545, the last 600 in 37s and Cop Me ran over the same ground in 51.7 s and 38.75.
