Lord Kara should cap off useful form today

Even the most successful trainers have their teams depleted by sales and retirements and a team going through a rebuilding stage this season is that of the Kerrytown horseman, Richard Brosnan. However, the consistent Lord Kara looks well placed to cap off a useful run of form for the stable in the third leg of the T.A.B. treble at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting this evening.

Brosnan has six training wins to this stage of the season (four individual winners), a lean one by his standards, but has again enjoyed his usual success as a reinsman with 18 wins, including the $125,000 New Zealand Sires Stakes Final with Sir Alba, the D.B. Superstar Series Final behind Loveridge and the Ashburton Cup driving Greg Patron. Lord Kara has finished further back than fifth only

once in 10 starts this season and is deserving of a win tonight. The Lordship—Kara Kara gelding has been the runner-up in two of his last three starts and should get every chance from a handy draw in the Alexandra Restaurant Mobile Pace over 2000 m.

Last time out at Motukarara he finished smartly late to beat all but Cintique Lass, while two starts earlier he ran Sea King close in a hectic three-way

finish at the Waimate meeting at Oamaru. Shipmate, a winner four starts back over 2000 m (mobile) at Oamaru in a useful 2min 32.4 s and a stout finisher for third to Fly Boyden Fly and Regal Mate at Addington last Friday, is racing soundly and capable of testing the likely favourite.

Ashley Lobell won stylishly over 2000 m (stand) at Orari last month and has raced fairly since, while

World of Fame, a last-start third in the Reefton Cup, and Riani, a useful two-year-old filly last season which is down to make a fresh start, are others which will have solid backing. Penta and Adioo Omahae are capable of upsetting with luck in the running. Waimea Bret (Dan Cosgrove Mobile Trot) and Menteith (Northtown Mall Mobile Pace) are in-form candidates for the first two legs of the T.A.B. treble.
