Dorothy returns to Oz
Dorothy (Fairuza Balk, above) tells an unusual creature called the Gump about her plan to escape from the wicked Princess Mombi in “Return to Oz,” which will start at the Savoy tomorrow.
This large-scale, live-ac-tion adventure fantasy is the realisation of the longheld ambition of the Disney Studios to bring to the screen another major film
based on the stories of L. Frank Baum, author of “The Wizard of Oz,” whose work has achieved a place in American folklore. This film tells the story of Dorothy, a young Kansas farm girl who revisits the land of Oz only to find at the end of the Yellow Brick Road the Emerald City in ruins. A tyrannical Nome King has deposed her friend, the
Scarecrow, and is holding him captive. Consequently, she sets out on a rescue mission accompanied by Billina, the talkative hen; Jack, an amiable fellow with a pumpkin head; and Tik Tok, a helpful robot. The adventures lead them to a fantastic underground kingdom and a confrontation with the Nome King.
