The Cure win
“Melody Maker,” the British musical weekly, has chosen. The Cure’s “The Head On The Door,” as its album of the year. The magazine’s single of the year goes to “Bring On The Dancing Horses,” by Echo and the Bunnymen. Other awards include Chap of the Year to Shane MacGowan, of The Pogues, and Wally of the Year to Lloyd Cole, of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions fame. And to show that “MM” is into non-sexism in a big way, Chappess of the Year goes to Patsy Kensit. Kevin Rowland, of Dexy’s Midnight Runners, took the Fruitcake of the Year title, and Lip of the Year award went to Mark E. Smith, of The Fall.
Others to get accolades include Andrew Ridgeley, of Wham!, for Walking Disaster of the Year, and The Clash, as Turkeys of the Year.
