Sneakies big year

By

NEVIN TOPP

Sneaky Feelings are considering following the example set by The Chills by heading for the United Kingdom in May. The Sneakies and the Netherworld Dancing Toys are booked at separate Christchurch venues this week-end, making it more like a flying Dunedin weekend.

Jeremy Freeman, the manager of Sneaky Feelings, said that the band were looking at going to the United Kingdom in May. “We decided to give 1986 all our time, devoting as much time as possible to our music.” The Sneakies have set themselves a daunting recording schedule. Besides the 11-track “Taking Sides” compilation cassette tape coming out on Flying Nun

shortly, the group are set to record; another 12-inch EP, an album, and also spend time recording in a studio in Dunedin.

The. tracks for “Take Sides,” on Flying Nun, would, come from “Send You,” “Husband House,” and a‘song from the proposed new jl2-inch EP, “Better Than i Before,” called “Wouldn’t Cry,” by David Pine..

Better than Before was expected to come out in' March, hopefully coinciding with (some of the group’s national university orientation tour.

Sneaky Feelings would also be working on a new album at Mascot studios and were also intending to record further material at Strawberry Fields studios, Dunedin, who had an eighttrack desk.

“The good think about having a place like Strawberry Fields is that you can record something and then two weeks later go back and re-mix it just like everyone else does,” Freeman said.

Sneaky Feelings are playing at the Gladstone Tavern, tomorrow and Saturday evenings, shows that they organised independently. The Netherworld Dancing Toys are playing at the Carlton Hotel tomorrow and Saturday evenings, and also have an outdoor show lined up at Jellie Park on Saturday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with admission set at ?5.

The interesting thing about the Netherworld Dancing Toys is that the group is being backed by a horn section that virtually includes all of the Roger Fox Band, including Fox himself; and Noel Connolly.
