NZPA-PA London The Marquess of Blandford, heir to a £5O million ($155.92 million) fortune and great-nephew of Sir Winston Churchill, was yesterday branded “a common criminal” and jailed for three months. The 30-year-old son of the Duke of Marlborough and heir to the Blenheim Palace estate, was clearly stunned as he was sent down for breach of probation imposed for a heroin offence. Appearing before magis-
trate Eric Crowther, in the Horseferry Road Court he was told: “Lord Blandford, through the illegal taking of drugs, you, one of the richest and most powerful men in the land, have become a common criminal. “When you last appeared before me less than eight months ago on charges of burglary and possession of heroin, I placed you on probation and warned you then that the slightest breach would land you straight in prison.”
