A.I.D.S. developments
NZPA-Reuter Washington The manufacturer of a disinfectant widely used in hospitals and by dentists to clean medical instruments asserted yesterday that studies showed it was effective in killing the deadly A.I.D.S. virus. A study conducted by Bionetic Research, of Rockville, Maryland, showed that the disinfectant, called Sporicidin, kills the virus that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome asserted Mr T. J. Shattner,
vice-president of the Sporicidin Company. Another study conducted by the Centre for Disease Control in Atlanta found that Sporicidin kills also the Hepatitis “B” and genital herpes viruses, the company asserted. Researchers are exploring a possible link between A.I.D.S. and an increase in tuberculosis in New York City, following a preliminary study showing that 80 per cent of TB victims tested had been exposed to A.I.D.S.
