Chch firm wins contract

A Christchurch-based company has won a $500,000 contract to provide economic consultancy services to the Development Bank of Western Samoa.

The consulting company, J. G. Groome and Associates, won the contract from the Asian Development Bank ahead of five other countries.

The company’s principal, Mr John Groome, said that the company had completed similar projects in 40 coun-

tries over the last 20 years. “The Western Samoa contract helps reinforce New Zealand’s reputation as a country with a high level of management consultancy skills in all sectors of the economy,” Mr Groome said. Western Samoa was facing a very difficult period in its development, he said. The Government was trying to strengthen the country’s internal economy through a programme based

on the rural sector.

“However, the introduction of new industrial opportunites would provide a valuable balance to the island community,” Mr Groome said. Five New Zealanders, including two staff from the Rural Bank and two experts from specialist companies, will spend nine months in Western Samoa advising on the Government-owned Development Bank’s 1986 programme.
