AUSTRALIA Mining buoyant

NZPA-AAP Sydney The Australian sharemarket closed firmer yesterday as a buoyant mining sector and continued demand for quality industrial stocks pushed the market up. Near the close of trading, the all-ordinaries index had gained 9.2 points to 1041.6; .the all-industrials 13.8 points to a record 1539.4; and the all-resources 5.6 points to 657.3. The gold index surged 30.6 points to 901.3. Turnover was 65.3 M shares, worth sAust96.lM, rises outnumbering falls 294 to 127.

the mining sector was particularly strong with Peko up 20c to 520, CRA 10c to 596, Western Mining 11c to 340 and MIM 6c to 288. After a rise in world bullion prices, gold stocks made some spectacular gains. Central Norseman rose 50c to 690, GMK 40c to 840, Emperor 30c to 350 and Metana 15c to 250.

Two million Bond Corporation shares were specialled at 192 on the industrial board and the share price moved up seven to 199. Pioneer Concrete traded just under 2M shares and the price remained steady on 270.
