Bowls to Howman
Robin Howman (Burnside) earned his biggest bowls cheque when, in partnershp with Lyn Hanger, he won the final, of the Beckenham club’s invitation pairs tournament on Tuesday. Howman and Hanger collected $5OO, with the runners-up, Colin. Lowery and Bob Patterson (Southbridge), pocketing $3OO.
Given a firm base by Hanger, Howman was in control nearly all the way. He went clear in the middle stages, and won convincingly at 17-11. In the plate final, Ray Hunt and Bruce McNish (Spreydon) beat George Griffiths and Travis Coup (Kaiapoi), 25-10.
