A YEAR AT A TIME
By
WHIM WHAM
Some few Hours after Dark Next Tuesday, is when we shall be Passing the Half-way Mark Of the Penultimate Decade of the Second Millennium, A.D. — Time reckoned In Thousands making us feel As if we’re doing Business With the Universe — Big Deal! Already some Imbecile (Crazed by computerised Projections, Video Games, Predilections For Pop Science and half-baked Art) Is lining Us up for the Start Of the Count-down for New Year’s Eve 1999! Wrong date? Some of Us can’t wait To see the New Century in Before it can actually begin — As if the Twentieth had done its Worst And the Horrors of the Twenty-first Were about to burst! Mere annual Well-wishers like Me And You, Sir, stumble From Year to Year — we’ll never see Whole Centuries crumble, Millennial Dreams unstuck — We’ll settle (won’t we?) You and I For a 12 Months’ Supply Of average Luck!
