Judge appointed
PA Wellington An Auckland Queen’s Counsel, Mr Robert Philip Smellie, has been appointed a High Court judge. The Attorney-General, Mr Palmer, said. M r.; Smellie would take up his position as a judge in Auckland in February. Mr Smellie was born in Dunedin in 1930 and was
educated at Otago and ' Auckland Universities, graduating as a solicitor (1957) • and barrister (1958). He then joined the Auck- ‘ land firm of Grierson Jackson and . Partners where he remained until 1976 when he . went into practice as a barrister. ' : He was appointed a Q.C. ’ in 1979. . '
