Business looks to T and I
PA Wellington Business is calling for more information from the Department of Trade and Industry on overseas markets, trade policy, technology updates, and economic policy.
These are among the findings of Trade and Industry’s survey of more than 500 businesses, throughout New Zealand. The survey, part of .Trade and Industry’s corporate planning exercise, was designed to provide a business perception of the department, and the types of services which businesses in future may find of use. The survey also found: ® The business percep-. tion of the department was generally favourable. Con-
sultations on desired functions and services were welcomed by business leaders. ® Trade and Industry should pay more attention to the new growth sectors in the economy, especially the services sector.
©As the marketplace was undergoing fundamental change, staff should be encouraged to get out and interface with industry more often.
© The Trade Commissioner service was in great demand, particularly in centrally planned economies and developing countries. Additional support facilities were requested. The department expects to have a new corporate plan in place by February.
