Wool Board position
Mr R. J. Benge has been appointed Group Manager in charge of the Wool Board’s Commercial Division. .
The division is responsible for implementing the board’s market support activities including wool purchases and sales, minimum price valuations, and the management of the board’s stocks and wool stores throughout New Zealand.
Mr Benge has more than 25 years experience in the New Zealand wool trade, having joined the former New Zealand Wool Commission in 1961 as a valuer, being appointed supervising North Island valuer in 1969, and becoming Deputy Group Manager for the board’s commercial division in 1980. He succeeds Mr A. W. Patterson, who retires at the end of the month after a 40-year association with statutory bodies responsible
for overseeing the marketing of New Zealand’s wool.
Mr i Patterson was directly associated with the many major changes which have taken place in the marketing of New Zealand wool, including the introduction of Wool Board market intervention complementary to Minimum Wool Price Supplementation; pre-sale testing of wool; the board’s detailed wool type schedule; and the establishment of a sales division to sell the board’s stocks direct to the trade.
