Simon Katz should cope with handicap

A rehandicap of 10m to 30m should not be sufficient to prevent Simon Katz carrying on his winning way in the D.B. Banks Peninsula Cup at Motukarara tomorrow.

Simon Katz gave the impression that if anything he would benefit from the race he had at Ashburton yesterday. He looked to be carrying more condition than usual and after the race was completely unconcerned. He might have had only a neck to spare over Worthy Adios, but he did not look like being caught. He will race over a distance 400 m shorter at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s meeting, but the long run home and the possibility of

the track being on the slow side should help him. Spangled Pride has a splendid record on grass and he looks reasonably placed on 10m. He has raced quite consistently in the last two months and another win is not far off for him.

Worthy Adios did not look like making a mistake when he beat all but Simon Katz yesterday and but for being left in the open for much of the way he might have been harder to beat. If he reproduces that run, he should be one of the brighter chances. Sound efforts by Ranger

Globe, Globe Tour, Lord Seaton and Wedgewood at Ashburton point to their being close up at the finish, while Melvander, Game Greg and Roman Guy are others entitled to consideration.

Lorfay, trying for his third successive win, will probably be a commanding favourite for the Lordship Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double.

Rotary Motor, a winner at Rangiora last Saturday, Hamy’s Pride, Majestic Trouper and Sapphire King are others expected to show to advantage.
