Nudes in the haywain
NZPA-Reuter London The great-great-grandson of the artist John Constable has freshened up one of his ancestor’s landscape masterpieces by planting 32 naked women in the rustic scene. Richard Constable has painted “Haywain ’85,” a
copy of the 1821 original, with the addition of nudes sitting on the haycart, bathing in the river, and chatting on its banks. He says he does not intend to insult his illustrious forebear - he just likes painting nudes and landscapes. He plans to update
other (John) Constables in similar style. “Haywain ’B5” is on show at Crewkerne, western England, about a week by hay cart away from the .nineteenth century master’s beloved Dedham Vale in Essex.
