Container vessel named
The Lyttelton Harbourmaster, Captain Jack Barbour (left) hands a plaque to Captain Chris Yule, master of the new Tasman container vessel Canterbury Express (bottom), at the ship’s naming ceremony yesterday. The traditional champagne bottle christening was done by the member of Parliament for Yaldhurst, Mrs Margaret Austin. About 60 people, including the Minister of Overseas Trade and Marketing, Mr Moore, were present. The naming ceremony was the only one that many of the guests could remember being held at Lyttelton. The Canterbury Express and her sister ship the Auckland Express owned by Tasman Express Line, will call at two Australian and three New Zealand ports, including Lyttelton, every nine days. The ship left for Wellington after the ceremony.
