France and N.A.T.O.
Sir, — As a result of New Zealand’s desire to makes its defence policy its very own, the United States has denied this country any chance of joining in A.N.Z.U.S. Alliance naval exercises or exchanging military Intelligence information. I wonder, then, if the United States Ambassador to New Zealand could tell us why France was allowed to take part in recent N.A.T.O. naval exercises and retain command of her vessels while other vessels came under the N.A.T.O. supreme commander, and why she is allowed an interchange of military Intelligence material while still refusing to become a member of the N.A.T.O. alliance and will have no United States nuclear rocket bases on her soil. — Yours, etc., J. FLOWERS. December 16, 1985.
