Container ship to be replaced
The refrigerated container ship Dunedin left Auckland yesterday on her last voyage for the New Zealand Line’s Australia-North America container service. Having completed her charter, the Dunedin is being returned to her British owner, Furness Withy, and is being replaced by a larger vessel Discovery Bay on charter from London-based Overseas Containers, Ltd. The Discovery Bay has pre- ■ viously plied a run between New Zealand and Europe. She has a capacity of 1500 20ft containers, compared with the 766-container capacity of the Dunedin. The Australia-New Zealand Container Line service has been working for about 20 months. It includes a landbridge system which, by using rail ano road services, links North America to Australia and New Zealand. ARRIVALS Canterbury Express (6 a.m.), 3850, Melbourne (Scales).
