Cherry export fails
■PA Dunedin Central Otago’s inaugural export of cherries to Japan has failed on the road to its Blenheim packing and fumigation plant. The first consignment was sent by road on Sunday but after 14 hours in loose-
packed bins the fruit was no longer perfect and will have to go elsewhere. Stringent Japanese packing requirements require the fruit to arrive loose at the plant, the only one which is accredited for the market.
