Lesson learned from fire—Minister
PA Wellington The Minister for the Environment, Mr' Marshall, says the chemical industry and those involved in chem-
ical storage and transport have learned lessons from the fatal 1.C.1. fire last year. Mr Marshall told reporters he could not guarantee some of the problems highlighted in the report on the fire had yet been resolved, “but in terms of the industry I think the incident would have been a very
educative experience.” Some had now taken their own precautions against such an incident occurring, he said.
Mr Marshall said he now intended to seek comment from relevant Government authorities such as the D.S.I.R. and Civil Defence, the company 1.C.1. and other interested groups. He intended to take a report to the Cabinet next year picking up the report’s recommendations, he said.
