Special requirements of the AFTN Include: • Twenty-four hour, seven day operation. • Storage of message texts for at least 30 days. • Database for aeronautical and meteorological Information. • Support for data transport requirements for the planned National Air Traffic Services system. • A variety of devices to be connected to the network including low speed Baudot devices, high speed ASCII, EDCDIC, graphical and radar devices. • Central network control centre to test systems and lines and the manage the message switching and database systems.
