Man remanded for alleged forging

A Hokitika manager faced 13 charges of forging civil aviation examination papers in Timaru and Invercargill when he appeared before Judge Fogarty in the District Court at Greymouth yesterday. Steven John Keenan, aged 26 (Mr S. J. Hembrow), was further remanded in custody until Thursday afternoon pending the hearing of a procedural application in the High Court at Christchurch.

Keenan is alleged to have forged papers on behalf of another person at Timaru in August, 1983, and April, 1984, on various civil aviation subjects and five on behalf of another person at Invercargill in November, 1984. Mr Hembrow unsuccessfully sought interim sup?ression of Keenan’s name, he Judge said that the defendant was presumed innocent until proven guilty, and Mr Hembrow had said that the charges would be vigorously defended.
