The driver of this car was killed and his passenger seriously injured when the car and a truck collided on the Tunnel Road early yesterday afternoon. He was Desmond Shane Wallace, aged 25, of 16 Baretta Street, Addington. One of the car’s occupants, believed to be the driver, was trapped in the car for about 30 minutes and had to be freed by the Fire Service. He was dead on arrival at Christchurch Hospital. The passenger was admitted to the intensive-care unit. The truck-driver was not injured in the accident, which happened at 1.15 p.m.
