Samoan sports personalities
PA Auckland A softballer, a rugby league player, a boxer and a netballer-softballer are the winners of the 1985 New Zealand Samoan sports awards. The winner of the top sportswoman award is Sal Faleauto, the promising Auckland and Metro softball player. Mark Elia, the top tryscorer on the Kiwi rugby league tour , of Britain and France, won the top sportsman award. The New Zealand amateur heavyweight boxing
champion, Jimmy Peau, who won a silver medal at the recent boxing World Cup, gained the young rising star award, and a New Zealand netball and softball representative, Rita Fatialofa, won the sports personality award. The awards will be presented by the Western Samoan High Commissioner, Lupematasila loane Wendt, and the Minister of Pacific bland Affairs, Mr Prebble, at a function at the Kingsgate Convention Centre, Auckland, on Thursday evening:
