Victoria Square

Sir,—The plans outlined in “The Press” this morning represent another example of reckless extravagance on the part of the Christchurch City Council. Economists warn us we are heading into a 1930-type depression and ratepayers will be hard put to live without having 10 per cent added to their rates for this unnecessary outlay. I congratulate Councillor Glubb on his protest. I would be interested to know what the chairmen of Waimairi, Paparua and Heathcote think of this latest brain-child of a council which they are being requested to join. — Yours, etc., S. L. DONALDSON. December 13, 1985.
