Rolls model meets ban
NZPA-Reuter Doha, Qatar One of the world’s most prestige-laden cars, the softtop Rolls-Royce Corniche Cabriolet, has been banned from Arab Gulf States because it fails to meet safety standards, an official said. Khaled al-Khalaf, secre-tary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council Standards Organisation, told Reuters that the ban also applied to two other soft-top models, the Bentley Continental and Volkswagen Golf GTL “If we receive new specifications from the manufacturers compatible with our safety requirements, import of the three models will be allowed,” he said. Before the ban, Corniches sold in the region for about SUSI2O,OOO ($212,400). Khalaf, attending a conference of G.C.C. industrialists in Doha, said no carmakers would be allowed to export vehicles to the region without meeting its safety rules.
