Ever since Lloyd Geering first startled New Zealanders with, his opinions about certain Christian beliefs * he has consistently sought to understand what should be an appropriate faith for the modern age. In this reproduction of a series of lectures he presented for the St Andrew’s Trust for the Study of Religion and. Society last year, Lloyd Geering :; gives us an excellent background for such a search. The appropriate context now, for science and religion, is one of synthesis and cb-operation rather than conflict and separateness. A new and exciting era is depicted and new insights and challenges for faith presented. Lloyd Geering has pursued his penetrating analysis of belief and his vision for faith, within the New Zealand context, to the extent that he has probably had a significant and formative influence on national thinking and attitudes. This succinct book should enable more New Zealanders to appreciate the over-all implications for belief of modern science and technology. The current scientific world view, which is both accurately and appropriately presented, needs to be responded to positively from both within and outside the established churches.
