Cheaper spare parts?

PA Wellington The price of most spare parts for motor-vehicles is expected to fall after the decrease in import duties — as much as 40 per cent for many items — takes effect on January 1. However, a continued depreciation of the exchange rate could offset any reduction in the price of imported replacement parts, said the President of the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association, Mr Dunford McDonald, yesterday. The price of new passenger and commercial vehicles would not be affected by a decrease in duty on specific components (which range from nuts and bolts to complete engines) and there would be no direct impact on the price of New Zealand-made parts, Mr Dunford said.
