As this conversion completes, work will begin on new applications aimed at hospital boards and the Department of Health. The department runs a nationwide network of IBM malnframes-Hnked by SNA using CODEX communications equipment. Distributed processing using IBM system 36’s and PC’s also link into mainframe centres at Christchurch and Auckland. Languages in use are COBOL, PCS/ADS application generator and SAS statistical analysls/reporter package. The positions offer new development work as well as maintaining existing systems, an advanced technical environment, clearly defined career paths, access to training (there is provision for paid study-leave) and excellent salary and conditions.
