Cable-car proposal
Sir, — So in the grab for the almighty tourist dollar, yet another beautiful and fragile part of New Zealand is to be sacrificed. Can Sir Miles Warren, as he “melds” the restaurant into the background of our lovely Port Hills, also “meld” in the heavily increased flow of traffic and resultant noise pollution in this valley? Can he “meld” in the hideous eyesore of car-parks on the slopes of our back door? Will Mr Yeoman recompense us for the subsequent tumble in value.of our properties, or the increaserjtb van-
dalism and crime that accompanies an increase in tourism? I think not — may we please think long and hard before permitting this project. — Yours, etc., MARJORIE E. BLAKE. December 10, 1985.
